Dr. Badger has a B.S. from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.S. from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland, all in Mechanical Engineering. He is known as “The Grinding Doc” from his question/answer column and videos in the trade magazine Cutting Tool Engineering. He was worked in grinding facilities in over 30 countries and brings a comprehensive yet practical approach to the subject.

Dr. Nolan has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Limerick in Ireland and is an expert in data acquisition. He is responsible for development of The Grindometer Lifeline.
Director of Technical Communications
Ms. Bilich has a Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences from the University of Texas at Austin and is a certified science educator. She is highly skilled at technical communication and is responsible for content development in The Book of Grinding and ensuring effective technical communication in courses and seminars.
Director Marketing
Dr. Welch has an MBA from Mary Hardin-Baylor University and a DBA in Marketing from Walden University. She is responsible for marketing and development of Grinding Doc products and services.
Mission Statement
Dr. Badger’s goal is to provide to his customers with objective, unbiased, accurate, up-to-date information about grinding and to support them in every way possible in improving their grinding operations. He is devoted to continuously gaining a better understanding of the grinding process and communicating this understanding in the most practical, down-to-earth way possible. His research goals are to advance mankind’s understanding of the grinding process and to develop new, more efficient methods of grinding.
Objectivity: Dr. Badger works independently and is not affiliated with any particular companies in the grinding industry.
Product Endorsement: Dr. Badger does not represent any particular companies nor does he endorse any products or brands. However, when Dr. Badger feels a particular product or process is beneficial, he will recommend that product to his customers. This recommendation is based strictly on the scientific merit of the product and he receives no benefits – financial or otherwise – from this recommendation.
Companies wishing to send catalogs and samples of their products are welcome to do so. If these products are evaluated, they will be evaluated strictly on their scientific merit.
Scientific Skepticism: When evaluating a product or process, Dr. Badger relies on hard scientific evidence and is very suspicious of “anecdotal evidence” or broad claims of “improved performance”. Any new products are assumed to be of no improved benefit until proven in the laboratory and in real production.
CIRP, The International Academy for Production Engineering, is the world’s leading organization in production research. The Grinding Doc is a corporate member in CIRP. Dr. Badger is widely published in the CIRP Annals and maintains close ties to the other experts in the CIRP “STC G” grinding group. Many of the concepts given in The Book of Grinding and discussed in educational courses come from high-level CIRP studies that are presented in a practical way.

ASME, The American Society of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Badger is an active member of ASME and frequent speaker at their MSEC Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conferences.

ICAT, The International Committee for Abrasive Technology, is the leading organization in abrasives technology and host of ISAAT, the International Symposium on Advances in Abrasives Technology. Dr. Badger is a frequent presenter at ISAAT and is a co-chairman for their upcoming conference in Stockholm, Sweden, October 2-5, 2016.
